On a group of beautiful deserted islands in the middle of nowhere, the following people are stranded:

two Italian men and one Italian woman
two French men and one French woman
two German men and one German woman
two Greek men and one Greek woman
two English men and one English woman
two Bulgarian men and one Bulgarian woman
two Japanese men and one Japanese woman
two Chinese men and one Chinese woman
two American men and one American woman
two Irish men and one Irish woman.

One month later on these absolutely stunning deserted islands in the middle of nowhere, the following things have occurred:

One Italian man killed the other Italian man for the Italian woman..

The two French men and the French woman are living happily together in a menage-a-trois.

The two German men have a strict weekly schedule of alternating visits with the German woman.

The two Greek men are sleeping with each other and the Greek woman is cleaning and cooking for them.

The two English men are waiting for someone to introduce them to the English woman.

The two Bulgarian men took one long look at the endless ocean and another long look at the Bulgarian woman and started swimming.

The two Japanese have faxed Tokyo and are awaiting instructions.

The two Chinese men have set up a pharmacy, liquor, store, restaurant, laundry, and have gotten the woman pregnant in order to supply employees for their store.

The two American men are contemplating the virtues of suicide, because the American woman keeps on complaining about her body, the true nature of feminism, how she can do everything they can do, the necessity of fulfillment, the equal division of household chores, how sand and palm trees make her look fat, how her last boyfriend respected her opinion and treated her nicer than they do, and how her relationship with her mother is improving, and how at least the taxes are low and it isn't raining..

The two Irish men divided the island into North and South and set up a distillery. They do not remember if sex is in the picture because it gets sort of foggy after the first few litres of coconut whiskey. But they're satisfied because at least the English aren't having any fun.

Either I do... They seem like they want to achieve that despicable thing they call success. The means they use doing it don't matter; something blur they can't even define, leads their lives to the edge of alienation...

I'm certainly not meaning what you usally point as independance. I'm certainly not meaning, in any ways as can be, the self determination that one needs to aim at. What I really point out, is more a concern about identity than anything else.

Denegating one's own cultural beings, branding one's integrity is something we just can't argue. You should come down Paris to really figure out my inner feelings.

I've live here and there (and my hubby is still between dkr-NY-paris) and I have to say that u guys are oftenly misjudging... being a working woman is somehow difficult to handle in our socity, sometimes u just need to hang with someone who won't be giving his tough about everything you do or say! Most of african guys have some kind of control issues and that is why you guys dont approve averything the do! Im not saying they are the best women ever but they are certainly doing their best improve their way of living

Here's the point we're facing a misundertanding: thinking we're pointing against working women...

There's nothing to do with them. And as I seem to have cleared my thoughts previously, I repeat that's the matter is a concern of identity. How could I seriously be against working?

The fact is, a vast part of african women, born there (the adverb is just a whole for saying "abroad"), a vast part of men in the same way, once comfortabily integrated in a social rush towards what they mean as "success", still do it at the price of letting their identity -- or integrity -- down. They reject almost everything from their previouses ways of living: men, habits, food, behaviours and even thoughts... I'm argueing against such that kind of denegation. The worst part is, widely propagated, all this is clustered into unconsciousness. Nothing apparent, but all that rejection reinforce us in our small bowl of cumfort, ease and alienation.

U must really be ironizing, when you sustain i'm misjudging working women. Laughing There's nothing to misjudge, since most of them - subject of my plea - isn't working...

    hahahahaha good one!!! still
I have to admit that some of us are sometimes flirting with the lines, but does this mean they are as bad as ur trying to show? but what I cant accept is the fact that when a senegalese guy dates a white girl its "fine" but when it is a sengalese girl dating anything else there is a whole drama about it... And please just be fair.
And just to make a point we are all the same from dakar to abbu dabhi

You probably won't believe me if I told I've been part, twice at least, of an interracial date. Not as boyfiend, but as the girl's friend. Not as a part-time lover, but as the one who helped them dating.

The sensitive point is not the integration in another world, another reality, but in the desintegration from ancient ones. The issue is not acceptance of others, but rejection of one's own people. I saw lots of girls, telling me they won't be in a senegalese community anymore. Oh, their reasons could be righteous, but the ones they gave wasn't just strong enough.

There's a certain standard, purely built up by centuries of occidentalisation, that african men couldn't fulfill. There's a certain standard of women that our sisters couldn't neither agree with. We're made differently, as we are physically different. So trying to reject what we are, what we'll be happier in accepting it, is to me a heavy load we should neglect. Wink

Well u must be veryyyy understanding... I cant imagine my friends helping me dating a white guy when I was single, they'd rather see me single forever...

Personally I can understand why somtimes a girl would want to stop her relationships with senegalese folks, they are too busy with peoples life, they think, judge, and get involved in too many ways! I Know we are different but we are also supposed to complete each other right?

Recently I have listened to an african man saying angrily: I will never resign my roots, I will never lose either my cultural identity or my traditions. But which is the exact meaning of all that? It must be awful to live for years in another country, feeling this anger when you feel that the people with whom you coexist don't understand any of these customs or traditions.

So what do you want them to do? wait for you guys to pay their bills? or keep braiding for nothin?

Heu... babygirl this is a public forum so no talking behind backs, cool? Cool I also think that you might have misunderstood my premise, what I meant is that the materialism and other not so attractive ways of the western women have rubbed off on many of our sisters out here, to the point where it is destroying the fabric that built a family! Braiding should be an option only when one no possibility to get an education! So do not blame men for your choices. That said, being academically successful does not exempt a woman from understanding her role in the household! Look at the success rate of marriages of our parents and their parents! How many marriages have you personally seen fail in the last 5 years? I would like to hear your take on the reasons why they failed! .. I will give you examples from my personal experiences afterwards respect

Marriage is about two people, agreed! However it takes only one to make it fail, feel me? Men are not angels by a long shot, they have never been for that matter and traditionally women held it down. But with the advent of all these "isms", I put feminism on top of my list, everything went south. Look at the few successful marriages in our day, I can pretty sure that the woman of the household has more traditional values than modern ones! God has made us different (for god believers anyway) but different does not have to translate into competing! So I think women need to go back to understanding their role in the household and learn to accept it as a means to obey God, if not their husband. Of course thise goes for the man too.. I suppose one can argue that it is the "god" concept that is slowly dying in the heart of both men and women. Meaning that we claim godliness all day but no longer understand what it means let alone obey the commandments. But being a man, I see where women (those I have dealt with anyway) have gone nuts!!!!! héhé

well from the opposite side, I can say that all men went nuts a looooooooooooong time ago...
If we women are "running away" or giving up on mariages or let them fade away it is because most of men are running away from their responsibilities.
We are supposed to keep the household perfect for you but we also have to fulfill our owwn needs because you say you cant do it for us.
traditionaly men used to take care of ther wives and their only duty were to help their husband and raise their kids.
Now you guys does not care anymore and you just let us handle ourselves and sometimes our children... some kind of heavy load dont you think so?

Really? scratch Well I suppose that a man will not admit to his boyz that he does not handle his household well, so you may have a point that I am a bit ignorant about! However it is also a fact that women's needs have just gone off the rocker!!! from watching tv to trying to keep with the latest styles and competing with other girls... I mean it is become so bad that it seems like women no longer get married for the duty to have and raised a good family! Rather it seems that they jump into it because thjey are competing with other women about how good their man looks, what he has, what he does for her so on and so forth.. And in this game the man is there to serve a purpose which is to make the woman shines in front of friends and if the poor dude is not able to live up to her "expectations", everything is caput!!! Marriage used to be for better and for worse, you struggle together, laugh together.. basically you two and your kids against the world! But it has become all about "me me me"! what can you do for me? what have you done for me? It is a sad state of affairs we are living through...

Let's say that I have a "special" mom, and for some odd reason her relationship with my and my brothers wives starts out wonderfully but give it a year or so and the small talk and other female "thingies" start appearing.. without fail! But she is my heart so for sanity's sake, I advise my wife to not allow herself to be sucked in to the "extras" but of course that is easier said than done... women!!!! grrrrrrrrrr

Oh yeh! As long as he sees that you are listening and heeding his warnings and advices, he will stand by you! Because you will have formed a team. Problems in relationships surface when both parties try to impose their will, misunderstandings and disagreements soon follow and the husband (wife too) becomes then more receptive to outsiders' (mom or sister) chatter. But as long as your husband feels that you are on the same side, you have nothing to worry about.

Hey you know what I mean young lady! All am trying to say that men being the creatures they are, a woman cannot be banging heads with her husband all the time, that is all... Of course it goes without saying that the same holds true the other way around as well, the husband must know to listen and honor his wife's wishes, that is what the best of men do! But when push comes to shove, a real woman is one who knows to back down... Why? because 20 years later after all her friends have gone through at least one divorce and she looks at her family unit, kids gown up and happy she will be able to say "damn!! I work hard for this!" with a satisfied and proud smile on her face... It is not weakness, it is understanding what makes a marriage work and accepting to play one's part in it! Again before you go cutting neck off Laughing lemme be clear: This does NOT mean that she should stand for any kind of abuse, verbal or physical! Rather knowing that disputes WILL happen, she should master the art of diffusing to prevent them from escalating by backing down sometimes! A man will only love more for it, it needs not be a competition! that's all I am saying Ben Voilà
